A Philadelphia record-shopping trip works best when there is time to browse. Stock changes, used records are individual items and a shop’s online listings may not describe everything in the bins. Set a budget and a few priorities, but leave room for a discovery you did not know to search for.
Start on South Street
Repo Records describes a selection of new and used music across several genres. Its official FAQ identifies the shop at 506 South Street and answers practical store questions. Check those details and current hours before making a special trip for a particular item.
Browse by genre, then ask staff about an artist, label or pressing you are trying to find. An event or album-signing listing is separate from ordinary store access, so confirm the event’s own arrangements if that is the purpose of your visit.
Include a Center City stop
Long in the Tooth is listed at 2027 Sansom Street on R5 Productions’ official ticket information. That is a useful location reference, but call the shop or consult its current announcements before assuming a particular record is available. Do not treat a promoter’s ticket page as a live inventory of the shop’s music stock.
A Center City stop and a South Street stop make a manageable route if you allow travel time between them. Carry purchases carefully and avoid planning a day that leaves records in a hot vehicle while you attend another activity.
Check the record, not only the cover
For used purchases, ask what the condition description covers and whether inspection or listening is available. Confirm the format, edition and number of discs; an attractive sleeve does not establish how the record plays. Review the shop’s return policy before purchasing a collectible item.
For gifts, a short list of favorite artists is often more useful than guessing an expensive pressing. Ask about gift certificates if the recipient enjoys choosing their own records. Keep receipts and any condition notes, and make the neighborhood walk part of the outing rather than racing through a long list of stores.
